In our first Counselor Connect update, Director of Admissions Lisa Ellrich discusses campus updates and UMF’s future plans for counselor communications.?

Dear Friends,

Welcome to Counselor Connect, a new communication to help keep you informed of the myriad opportunities for your students at the University of Maine at Farmington.

It’s been a very busy fall for the UMF Admissions Team as we have traveled throughout New England and beyond, meeting with school counselors, as well as prospective students and their families. Through a combination of high school visits, college fairs, and private meetings, we have been in over 750 locations, sharing our love of Farmington and all the wonderful opportunities available through our outstanding programs. These visits have taken us from the crown of Maine to the far corners of New England. We have also visited a number of schools in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware, recruiting in communities that have sent us terrific students in recent years. Our staff of 10 professionals has logged nearly 50,000 road miles, spreading great news about the University wherever we go.?

In this issue, I’m pleased to draw your attention to some of our recent accolades that speak to our reputational strength and affordability, our highly engaged faculty, and our highly accomplished students. In what I like to call our “ReFresher on Farmington” series, we showcase our distinctive Alpine Operations Program — great for students who love the ski industry — as well as our multi-degree programs that put students on an accelerated career path, saving them both time and money: our 3+3 Law program with Maine Law, 3+2 programs in counseling (social work, clinical, and school), and 3+3 Chiropractic program through our partnership with Logan University.?

As we transition from the fall recruiting travel season to application reading season, we are thrilled to see applications to Farmington piling up. Nearly 500 students have already applied through our Early Action option ahead of the November 15 deadline. Remember — we are test optional and applying to UMF is free! Students can do so using the Common App or the University of Maine System application at We cannot wait to welcome the Class of 2024 to Farmington.

We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming Counselor Updates across the state. We will be hosting luncheons across the state this month. Please see this link for the dates, locations and registration information:

Also, we would love to come back to your school to staff an on-the-spot admissions day. We are already on the books at many schools and have a date coming right up. If you are interested in this option, please reach out to me, and I will be happy to work with the counselor who reads for your school to help set up an on-the-spot admissions day at your school. These days are always fun for us as it’s wonderful to be able to deliver the good news to your students in person!?

We are off to a great start in building the Class of 2024, and we appreciate all the support you and other members of the school counseling community continue to provide us. Thank you for the incredibly important role you play in guiding students to post-secondary plans that help them realize their potential and are truly a good fit, academically and financially.

Go Beavers!
Lisa Ellrich, Director of Admissions
